Track Heads To WKU Hilltopper Relays

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois continues its 2013 outdoor track season on the road this weekend as the Panthers travel to the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Relays on Saturday. Competition is slated to begin at 9 a.m. One event, the men's and women's hammer; will take place on Friday afternoon.
The Panthers posted a third place finish in both the men's and women's team scoring at last week's Miami Invite. Mick Viken was named the OVC Male Field Athlete of the Week as he won the pole vault. His vault of 17'0.75” currently ranks in the top 45 in the NCAA this season.
EIU had five women's athletes post EIU career top ten marks at Miami last weekend while two men's athletes had career top ten marks at the meet.
Britney Whitehead posted career top ten marks in the 800m and 1500m run. She won the 1500m with a time of 4:29.45 which ranks fourth all time at EIU. She was the top collegiate finisher in the 800m with her time of 2:11.31 ranking seventh at EIU.
Elizabeth Dole was fifth in the women's 10K with her time of 38:28.04 ranking eighth on EIU's career list. Kelsey Hardimon was ninth in the women's steeplechase with her time of 11:48.28 ranking 10th on EIU's career list.
In field events Condia Smith and Janie Howse both posted EIU career top ten marks. Smith was fifth in the hammer with her throw of 158'1” ranking fourth all time. Howse was fifth in the discus with her mark of 143'4” ranking fifth at EIU.
On the men's side Eric Gordon moved up to ninth on the EIU career pole vault list with a height of 16'0.75” as he placed fourth in the event. Jared Diaz was third in the men's hammer with his throw of 177' ranking ninth on EIU's career list.
First place finishes at the Miami meet were turned in by Whitehead in the women's 1,500m,Abigail Schmitz in the women's pole vault, Viken in the men's pole vault, Kaleel Johnson in the men's 100m, Calvin Edwards in the men's 200m, Bryce Basting in the men's 800m,Dominique Hall in the men's 110m hurdles, Daniel Trevor in the men's 400m hurdles andDavid Johansson in the men's javelin.
