Three First Place Finishes At IU Relays Day One
Saturday, January 28 2012 - Indiana RelaysBLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Eastern Illinois indoor track and field posted three first place finishes on day one of the Indiana Relays as the Panthers men and women recorded ten top ten finishes. Erika Ramos, Zye Boey and Sean Wiggan all collected first place finishes while setting records in the process.
Ramos won the women's mile run with a time of 4:53.67. The time broke the school record previously held by Margaret Smith in 1983 (4:54.4).
Wiggan won the men's 600m run with a time of 1:19.70. The time broke the school record previously held by Kert McAfee in 1997 (1:19.97). Ephraim Dorsey placed fourth in the 600m with a time of 1:21.19.
Boey won the 200m invitational with a time of 21.07. The time set the Indiana Gladstein Fieldhouse record. Boey also advanced to the finals of the 60m which will be run on Saturday.
Megan Gingerich had a strong showing in the 600m for the second straight week. Gingerich placed second in the event with a time of 1:34.51 which was just off her school record time set last week at the John Craft Invite.
Matt Black and Bridget Sanchez added top ten finishes for the Panthers on the track. Black placed 8th in the men's 3,000m with a time of 8:42.79. Sanchez was 9th in the 200m invitational with a time of 25.42.
In field events Abigail Schmitz, Donald Romero and Sodiq Alliu all posted top ten finishes. Schmitz placed fifth in the women's open pole vault with a mark of 12'1.50". Romero was sixth in the men's shot put with a toss of 52'0.50". Alliu was 10th in the men's triple jump at 44'4.75".
