Track Wins Three Weekly OVC Awards
Tuesday, January 24 2012 - John Craft InvIteBRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Coming off a dominating performance at the John Craft Invite, Eastern Illinois men's and women's track and field had three athletes named OVC Track and Field Athletes of the Week based on their performances. Zye Boey, Donald Romero and Jade Riebold all earned weekly awards.
Boey was named the OVC Male Track Athlete of the Week after posting a pair of first place finishes in the 60m and 200m sprints. Boey won the 60m dash in a time of 6.76. His winning time in the 200m was 21.56 which set the John Craft Invite record for that event. Boey is currently 4th in the nation in the 200m and 15th in the nation in the 60m.
Romero was named the OVC Male Field Athlete of the Week after placing first in the weight throw. His winning distance was 60'6”. Romero is currently ranked 23rd in the NCAA in the weight throw. Romero added a third place finish in the shot put with a distance of 50'8.25”.
Riebold was named the OVC Female Field Athlete of the Week after placing second in the pole vault. Riebold became the first EIU women's pole vaulter to break the 13' barrier as she cleared 13'1.50”. Riebold bettered her own school record which she set at the EIU Early Bird meet back in December. She is currently ranked 19th in the NCAA in the pole vault.
EIU returns to action this weekend at the Indiana Relays on Friday and Saturday.
