Men's Track Ranked 9th In Midwest Region
Wednesday, January 25 2012 - John Craft InvIteNEW ORLEANS – Eastern Illinois men's track and field opened the indoor track season ranked ninth in the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional rankings. EIU returns to action this weekend at the Indiana Relays which will feature several regionally and nationally ranked teams in the field.
Nebraska is ranked first in the region followed by Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa and Oklahoma. Southern Illinois is sixth with Kansas, North Dakota State, Eastern Illinois and Kansas State rounding out the top ten. Missouri, Oral Roberts, Wichita State, Iowa State and Loyola-Chicago are ranked 11 through 15.
In addition to a team regional ranking, EIU has several individual men's athletes ranked in the top 30 in the nation. Zye Boey is ranked 4th in the 200m and 15th in the 60m dash. Donald Romero is currently 23rd in the nation in the weight throw while Mick Viken is 24th in the pole vault.
