EIU Track Splits Squad This Weekend

Panthers head to WKU Hilltopper Relays & Illini Twilight
 
 
CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois track and field returns to action this weekend as the Panthers split their squads for the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Relays and Illini Twilight on Saturday.  EIU is coming off a second place finish by the men and fourth place finish by the women at the EIU Big Blue Classic last weekend.
 
EIU currently has five athletes that have national rankings in the top 100 after last weekend.  Mick Viken ranks third nationally in the pole vault while Peter Geraghty ranks 12th in the NCAA.
 
Calvin Edwards and Jalisa Paramore both rank in the top 100 in the nation in multiple events.  Edwards is 37th in the nation in the men's 400m and 61st nationally in the men's 200m.  Paramore is 76th in the NCAA in the women's long jump and 81st in the nation in the women's 100m hurdles. 
 
Kailey James, who won the women's heptathlon at the Neil Moore Multis last weekend, is ranked 91st in the nation in the heptathlon.
 
Edwards was among a handful of EIU athletes that posted career top 10 marks at the Big Blue Classic.  Edwards time in the 400m (47.23) ranks him 7th on the EIU career list while his 200m (21.16) time ranks 10th on the EIU career list.
 
Emily Brelsfoard posted a 5K time of 17:32.65 which ranks 6th on the EIU career list.  Kristen Paris time of 2:12.11 in the 800m moved her into 8th place on the EIU career list.
 
Kirstie Wieber and Lauralyn Rosenberger both cleared 11'9.75" in the women's pole vault to tie for 7th on the EIU career list.
 
The WKU meet will begin on Friday afternoon with the hammer throw.  All other events at the WKU Hilltopper Relays will begin on Saturday.  Field events start at 9 a.m. with running events slated for an 11 a.m. start. 

The Illini Twilight meet will be on Satuday with field events starting at 12 p.m.  Running events are set for a 5 p.m. start.
