Calio, Viken Win OVC Weekly Track Awards

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Illinois men's track and field athletes Mick Viken and Joe Calio were named the Ohio Valley Conference Male Track & Field Athletes of the Week following the Panthers season opening performances.
EIU prepares to host the Neil Moore Multis and Big Blue Classic this Thursday through Saturday at O'Brien Field.
Viken placed fourth in the pole vault invitational at the Texas Relays as he cleared 18'0.50" as he was named the OVC Male Field Athlete of the Week. Already the school record holder in the event, Viken became the first EIU athlete to ever clear the 18' height in the pole vault. His mark currently ranks first in the OVC and third in the nation.
Calio was named the OVC Male Track Athlete of the Week. He won the men's steeplechase at the Southern Illinois Bill Cornell Classic last weekend. Calio's first place time in the event was 9:18.90. His time is currently first in the OVC and 42nd in the nation.
