Track Posts Six 1st Place Finishes At SIU

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Eastern Illinois opened the 2014 outdoor track season with the Panther men placing third and the women fourth as the Southern Illinois Classic on Saturday. EIU will return home April 3-5 to host the Neil Moore Multis and Big Blue Classic.
EIU had four individual first place finishes while two relay squads picked up gold medals.
In addition to team competition at Southern Illinois on Saturday, Mick Viken and Peter Geraghty both competed in the pole vault invitational at the Texas Relays. Viken placed fourth with a height of 18'0.50". Viken becomes the first EIU athlete to ever clear 18'. Geraghty was seventh clearing 17'6.50" as his mark ranks second all-time at EIU.
EIU scored 138 points in the men's meet with Southern Illinois winning the meet with 180 points. The EIU women had 96 points while Indiana State won the meet with 197 points.
Kailey James picked up a first place finish for the EIU women in field events winning the high jump with a height of 5'2.25".
Jalisa Paramore won the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 14.23.
Joe Calio had one of two first place finishes for the EIU men in running events. Calio won the steeplechase with a time of 9:18.90. Calvin Edwards won the men's 200m dash with a time of 21.48.
Teammate Jamal Robinson was second in the men's 200m dash, one of two events he placed second in during the meet. Robinson's 200m time was 21.93. He was second in the 100m with a time of 10.85. Kaleel Johnson was third in the 100m with a time of 10.87.
The EIU men had a first place finish in the 4x100m relay with a time of 41.18. Johnathan Boey teamed with Edwards, Robinson and Johnson on the first place squad.
The EIU women had a first place finish in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:56.94. The relay team consisted of Amina Jackson, Ashley Fouch, Kirsten Bryant and Dhiaa Dean.
Jackson was second in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.29. Daniel Trevor was third in the men's' 400m hurdles with a time of 54.22.
The EIU men's 4x400m relay team was the third place finisher on Saturday. The relay squad included Derek Williamson, Christian Kolb, Trevor and Ephraim Dorsey.
The EIU women's 4x100m relay team placed third. The relay team included Bryant, Paramore, Klaudia Susul and Briana Walker.
Kendall Williams wrapped up the EIU competitors that medaled on Saturday at SIU with a third place finish in the men's triple jump. Williams posted a mark of 45'9.75".
