Three Panthers Win OVC Weekly Track Honor

BRENTWOOD, Tenn - Eastern Illinois had three track athletes win Ohio Valley Conference Athlete of the Week honors following the Panthers performance at the EIU Friday Night Special. The Panthers travel to Nashville, Tenn., this weekend to compete in the OVC Indoor Track Championships at Tennessee State.
Calvin Edwards, Dhiaa Dean and Peter Geraghty all won weekly awards for first place finishes.
Edwards was named the OVC Male Track Athlete of the Week for the fourth straight week as he posted a first place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 21.85. He currently ranks in the top 50 in the nation in 200m this season.
Dean was named the OVC Female Track Athlete of the Week after earning a pair of first place finishes. She was first in the 400m dash with a time of 56.79, the time ranking fifth on the EIU career list. Dean ran the third leg on the Panthers 4x400 relay team that placed first with a time of 3:55.07.
Geraghty was named the OVC Male Field Athlete of the Week after tying the EIU school record in the pole vault. He won the event with a mark of 17'10.50" which ranks 10th in the nation this season and first in the OVC. This is Geraghty's second award this season.
