EIU sweeps OVC Male Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Illinois men's track athletes Calvin Edwards and Mick Viken have been named the Ohio Valley Conference Male Track and Field Athletes of the Week. EIU returns to action this Friday hosting the EIU Friday Night Special in Lantz Fieldhouse beginning at 2 p.m.

Edwards won his third straight OVC Male Track Athlete of the Week honor as he won the 400m dash with a meet record time of 47.35. The time is the third fastest in EIU history and also ranks 49th in the nation this season. He ran the anchor leg on the 4x400 meter relay team that scored points as part of EIU's first place team finish at the Grand Valley State Big Meet.

Viken won the pole vault at the Grand Valley State meet as he posted a season best height of 17'9.25" to earn OVC Field Athlete of the Week honors. That mark ranks first in the OVC this season and is currently 12th in the nation.
