Track Wins Three OVC Weekly Awards
Wednesday, January 15 2014 - EIU Early BirdBRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Illinois men's and women's track and field won three of four awards as the Ohio Valley Conference announced its first OVC Athlete of the Week Award winners on Wednesday for meets in December and early January.
Johnathan Boey, Angelica Anyaogu and Jalisa Paramore were all honored for the Panthers for their performances at the EIU Early Bird meet in December. EIU returns to action this Saturday at the Illinois Indoor Invite.
Boey was named the Male Track Athlete of the Week. He began his EIU career winning the 60-meter dash at the EIU Early Bird meet with a time of 6.75 which ranks first on the OVC best list and is the eighth-best time in school history. He also placed fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.68
Anyaogu was named the Female Track Athlete of the Week. She set an Eastern Illinois record in the 60-meter dash at the EIU Early Bird Meet. She took second in the event with a time of 7.58 which also is the best mark in the OVC so far this season.
Paramore was named the Female Field Athlete of the Week. She placed first in the women's long jump competing at the season opening EIU Early Bird met. She posted a jump of 18'10.75" which ranks as the fifth best in school history. The leap is also the second best in the OVC so far this season. She also competed in the 60-meter hurdles, winning the even with a time of 8.61.
