Panthers open season hosting EIU Early Bird Meet

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois opened up the 2013-14 indoor track season with 14 first place finishes as the Panthers hosted the EIU Early Bird on Friday night in Lantz Fieldhouse.  Calvin Edwards and Jalisa Paramore were both dual event winners for EIU.

Paramore picked up first place finishes in both field and track events for the EIU women as they competed against Illinois State and Indiana State.  Paramore won the women's long jump with a distance of 18'10.75".  She won the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.61.

Edwards won a pair of sprint events for the EIU men.  He won the 200m in a time of 21.96.  His first place time in the 400m was 49.25.

The Panthers continued their dominance in the pole vault as returning All-Americans Jade Riebold and Mick Viken both won their events.  Riebold won the women's pole vault with a height of 13'6.25".  Viken won the men's pole vault with a height of 17'0.75".

Maura Cummins and Lauralyn Rosenberger added first place finishes in field events for the EIU women.  Cummins won the high jump clearing 5'7".  Rosenberger won the triple jump with a jump of 34'11".  Kendall Williams gave EIU a sweep of the triple jump winning the men's event with a mark of 45'0.25".

Freshman Jonathan Boey opened his EIU sprints career winning the 60m dash with a time of 6.75.  Dhiaa Dean and Kristen Paris had first place middle distance race victories for the EIU women.  Dean won the 600m with a time of 1:35.14.  Paris won the 800m in 2:16.83.

EIU swept the 3000m race with Laura Magnuson taking top honors for the women and Pablo Ramirez top honors for the men.  Magnuson won with a time of 11:08.38 while Ramirez winning mark was 8:31.68.

The EIU women won the Distance Medley Relay in a time of 12:51.93.  Quincy KnolhoffCharmaine ArnoldIvy Handley and Kelsey Hardimon combined to form the team.

The final first place finish was posted by Kaitlyn Corzine as she won the women's pentathlon with a point total of 677.

EIU will now take off the winter break returning to action on January 18 at the Illinois Invite.
