Whitehead Sets School 3K Record At IU Relays

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Eastern Illinois track and field opened up competition on Friday night at the Indiana Relays with a pair of first place finishes including a school record by seniorBritney Whitehead.
Whitehead won the women's 3K race with a time of 9:51.74 as she broke Robin Smith's school record in the event. Smith's record was 9:58.1 set during the 1978 season.
Eric Gordon posted the other first place finish for the Panthers winning the men's pole vault with a height of 16'4.75”. That mark landed Gordon in sixth on the Panthers career list. Dan Chalus placed fourth with a height of 15'5”.
Calvin Edwards added a top ten time in the men's 200m finishing second in the event. Edwards time of 21.83 ranks ninth on the Panthers career list.
Annemarie Reid rounded out the EIU competitors that posted career top ten marks. Reid was fourth in the pole vault at 11'11.75”. That height ranks fifth on the EIU career list.
Bryce Basting and Jared Diaz both posted top five finishes for the Panther men. Basting was second in the mile with a time of 4:15.11. Diaz was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 50'5.50”.
Angelica Anyaogu and Erika Ramos both posted top five finishes for the Panther women. Anyaogu was fourth in the long jump with a mark of 17'6.75”. Ramos was second in the mile with a time of 4:55.90.
