Klaus Sets EIU Women's 6K Record At Bradley

PEORIA, Ill. - Senior Olivia Klaus set the Eastern Illinois women's 6K record while Bryce Basting and Britney Whitehead also turned in top performances for the Panthers at Friday afternoon's Bradley Classic at Newman Golf Course.
Klaus and Whitehead both posted times under the previous women's 6K record with Klaus setting the new school mark at that distance with a 10th place finish in a time of 21:35. Whitehead placed 18th with a time of 21:42 as the EIU women's team placed 9th out of 23 teams.
On the men's side several runners set personal bests including Basting as the sophomore posted the eighth best mark in school history with a time of 24:23. He helped the Panther men's squad finish in fifth place out of 18 schools in the 8K race.
Both EIU teams will return to action on Oct. 27 at the OVC Championships in Alabama. The EIU women are the defending conference champions while the men placed second last year.
Junior Pablo Ramirez continued his strong first season running for EIU as the junior college transfer placed 21st with a time of 25:00. Danny Delaney was 27th at 25:25. Matt Blackplaced 49th at 25:41. Mike Hesslau was 84th at 26:13. Derrick Johnson was 87th at 26:16 and Max Gassmann was 102nd at 26:27 to round out the men's scored runners.
Erika Ramos, the Panthers former record holder at the 6K distance, placed 63rd at 22:27. Stephanie Peisker was 69th at 22:33. Freshman Amy Yeoman was 101st at 22:52. Kelsey Hardimon was 108th at 22:58 and Emily Pedziwiatr was 113th at 23:01 to round out the women's scored runners.
Other EIU men's runners competing at the Bradley Classic included Victor Delatorre in 109th at 26:33, Tyler Anderson in 119th at 26:47, Doug Mateas in 127th at 27:03, Ryan Ballard in 133rd at 27:08 and Brock Ramos in 149th at 27:46.
Other EIU women's runners competing at the Bradley Classic included Paige Biehler in 115th at 23:04, Elizabeth Dole in 118th at 23:05, Victoria Quarton in 145th at 23:34 and Katelynn Duckett in 199th at 25:06.
