Cross Country Returns To Action At Louisville

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Following an off week Eastern Illinois men's and women's cross country returns to action this Saturday competing at the Greater Louisville Invite. The meet will take place at the E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State park with racing set to begin at 8:30 a.m. (Central). Louisville will play host to this year's NCAA Cross Country Championships.
The EIU men had a solid showing in their last outing at the Illinois Intercollegiate as they placed seventh in the field. Sophomore Bryce Basting was named the OVC Male Cross Country Runner of the Week after he placed seventh overall and fourth among University Division runners. Basting had an 8K time of 24:44 which ranks 20th best in EIU history at that distance. Junior college transfer Pablo Ramirez turned in his second strong performance of the year placing 15th with a time of 24:54.
On the women's side the team placed seventh at the Illinois Intercollegiate. Senior Olivia Klaus led the way for the second straight week placing 21st with a 5K time of 18:13. SeniorBritney Whitehead posted a career best time at the 5K distance finishing 23rd with a time of 18:17.
A total of seven Ohio Valley Conference teams will be in action at this Louisville meet with Austin Peay, Belmont, Eastern Kentucky (women), Morehead State, SIU Edwardsville and Tennessee Tech all set to compete.
Following the Louisville Invite, EIU will return to action on Friday, Oct. 12 at the Bradley Classic.
