Select Group Headed To NCAA Last Chance Meet
Wednesday, February 29 2012 - Alex Wilson InvitationalCHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois will send a select group of athletes to compete in NCAA Last Chance meets to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships this weekend. The Panthers will compete on Thursday at North Central College in Naperville, Ill., and at Notre Dame on Friday and Saturday.
Jade Riebold and Mick Viken will compete in the pole vault at both meets with a Thursday event schedule beginning at 4:30 p.m. Both Riebold and Viken won the pole vault event at last weekend's Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Zye Boey will compete in the 60m and 200m sprints on Saturday at Notre Dame as he looks to qualify for his third NCAA Indoor National Championship in four years. Last year Boey earned first team All-American honors in the indoor 200m by placing seventh at the National Championships.
Graham Morris, Megan Gingerich and Erika Ramos will all compete in distance and middle distance events at Notre Dame on Saturday. Morris will run in the men's 3K while Gingerich and Ramos will both compete in the women's 800m. Gingerich and Ramos rank first and second on the EIU career list in the 800m.
In field events the EIU men will send Bryce Hogan and Donald Romero to compete at Notre Dame. Hogan will compete in the long jump while Romero will compete in the weight throw. Romero won the weight throw event at the OVC Championships last weekend.
This will be the last regular season event of the 2012 indoor season for EIU. The Panthers won their fourth straight OVC indoor track titles in both men's and women's track. Any athletes who qualify for the NCAA National Championships will compete in Boise, Idaho next weekend.
