Track Heads to Drake and Louisville

Eastern Illinois track and field returns to action this weekend as the Panthers will send a small group of athletes to compete in the Drake Relays while the larger portion of the team will head to the Louisville Lyles/Wood Invite.
 
EIU has nine individuals heading to Drake with Brandan Lane and Tadiwa Mhonde set to compete in the men's 100 and 200 meter dash.  Chris Orlow will compete in the men's 1,500 meter run and Jekeel Suberwill compete in the men's 110 meter hurdles.  Joe Smith rounds out the men's competitors competing in the men's triple jump.
 
On the women's side Pedra Hicks will compete in the 100 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles.  Grace Rowan will run the 1,500 meter run while Kate Bushue and Maggie McPherson will both be in action in the women's 5,000 meter run.
 
A larger portion of the EIU team will compete in Louisville on Friday and Saturday as the Panthers close in on the end of the regular season.  EIU currently has four athletes ranked in the top 55 in the West Region with Hicks the top ranked Panthers performer at 22nd in the women's 400 meter hurdles.  Smith is 52nd in the men's triple jump.  Nick Phillips is 53rd in the men's hammer and Dustin Hatfield is 53rd in the men's 10,000 meter run.  Hatfield ran the 10K at last week's Mt. SAC Relays posting the third best time in school history to earn OVC Male Track Athlete of the Week honors.
 
In addition to the four NCAA West Region Top 55 times, EIU has seven athletes that currently rank first in their event in the Ohio Valley Conference and eight that are ranked second.
