Track Wraps Up Action at Mt. Sac Relays

TORRANCE, Calif. –  Eastern Illinois track and field opened its weekend of competition on the West Coast with action at the Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday evening and Friday. 

Running late in California on Thursday night Dustin Hatfield ran in the 10,000 meter invitational posting a time of 29:31.65 to place 27th in the event.  He was 13th among collegiate competitors in the field as his time was the third fastest in school history.   Running in the Collegiate B Invite teammate Marcus Skinnerwas sixth with a 10K time of 30:43.19. 

Also opening action on Thursday in throws were MaKenna Wilson and Jasmine Woodley competing in the women's hammer throw.  Wilson placed eighth with a throw of 170'1".  Woodley was ninth with a throw of 169'3".

On Friday EIU had five additional athletes in action at Mt. SAC.  Brandan Lane and Tadiwa Mhonde both competed in the 100 meter and 200 meter sprints.  Lane had a 100 meter time of 10.84 and 200 meter time of 22.18.  Mhonde was slightly faster in the 200 meter dash at 22.16 and just behind in the 100 meters at 10.89.

Pedra Hicks competed in the women's 100 meter hurdles finishing with a time of 14.14.  Hicks will return to action on Saturday at the Mt. SAC Relays as she competes in the collegiate invite for the 400 meter hurdles.

Clayton Turner and Joe Smith competed in field events for the Panther men.  Turner was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 49'5".  Smith was ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 47'5".

While the Panthers had a group at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday, three Panthers traveled to nearby Long Beach to compete in the Beach Invite.  Nick Phillips competed in the men's hammer with a throw of 189'1".

Wilson and Woodley both competed in the hammer at Long Beach.  Wilson had a throw of 170'10".  Woodley had a throw of 169'.  Wilson also competed in the women's javelin throw with a toss of 132'4".

EIU will have a small group of athletes return to action on Saturday at the Beach Invite.
