EIU Track Set to Heat Up Lantz Fieldhouse

Panthers to host 191 competitors from 16 squads in annual mega meet
Eastern Illinois Indoor Track
CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Eastern Illinois men’s and women’s indoor track will host a very special Mega Meet on Saturday at the Lantz Fieldhouse as the Panthers will retire a jersey in honor of former Olympic triple jumper John Craft at Noon during the meet.


The overall meet will begin at 9 a.m. and run until the late afternoon.

Teams currently scheduled to compete in the event at Eastern Illinois include Chicago State, Greenville, Memphis, Murray State (women only), St. Xavier (men only), and the host Panther squads.

Also competing will be various members of the Big River Running Co., HAM, Illinois XC & Track Club, Indiana Invaders, and Steeple-Web.

The Panthers are coming off a strong showing at the Wisconsin Badger Track Classic in which they posted five first place finishes.

Zye Boey earned OVC ‘Male Track Athlete of the Week’ following his first place finishes in the 60m and 200m dash. Boey currently ranks 3rd in the NCAA in the 200m. He is currently 22nd in the NCAA in the 60m.

Tyler Carter placed first in the men’s long jump while Erika Ramos was the first place finisher in the mile run.  Ramos ranks 23rd in the NCAA in the 800m, a time she posted at the EIU Early Bird back on Dec. 10.

The EIU men’s Distance Medley Relay team also picked up a first place finish. The men’s DMR currently ranks 21st.

Mick Viken, a redshirt freshman pole vaulter, is currently ranked 14th in the NCAA.
