Track Posts Six First Place Finishes At Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. - Eastern Illinois posted six first place finishes at the Wisconsin Badger Track Classic on Saturday afternoon as the Panthers returned to action for the spring portion of the 2011 indoor season.
Zye Boey placed first in the 60m and 200m dash with times of 6.77 in the 60m and 21.45 in the 200m. Darren Patterson was right behind Boey in those two events placing third in the 200m at 22.10 and fifth in the 60m at 7.06.
Tyler Carter won the long jump with a distance of 22'8" as the Panthers took home the top three spots in that event. Bryce Hogan was second at 225 while Lamarr Pottinger was third at 214. Pottinger also placed 4th in the 60m hurdles at 8.39.
The EIU men's distance medley squad placed first with a time of 10:20.29. Wes Sheldon,Chad Aubin, Reid Basting and Ryan Ballard composed that squad. The womens DMR placed 2nd with a time of 12:40.56. That relay team was comprised of Megan Gingerich, Erika Foltys, Erika Ramos and Britney Whitehead.
Ramos won the women's mile with a time of 5:13.70. Foltys placed fifth in the 1000m run at 3:07.33. Bridget Sanchez was second in the 400m at 57.55 while Justine Moore rounded out the top five track event finishers. Moore placed fifth in the 60m hurdles at 9.30.
Condia Smith took home top honors in the women's shot put with a mark of 39'06" as EIU placed first and second in the event. Frisline Saintoiry was second with a throw of 394.50. Saintoiry was fifth in the weight throw at 5111.75. Blake Stokich was fourth for the EIU men in the weight throw at 4610.
The mens 4x400 relay team placed second with a time of 3:18.67. That team was comprised of Cody Boarman, Patterson, Patrick Tortorici and Preston Smith. Boarman would place second in the 400m later in the meet with a time of 49.62. Tortorici was third in the 400m at 49.72. Chad Aubin was a third place finisher in the 600m at 1:22.04.
Mick Viken posted a second straight top performance in the pole vault with a distance of 168.75 which placed second. On the womens side Abigail Schmitz was third in the pole vault at 117.75.
Jaimee Roy and Tiffany Beachy rounded out the field event top five finishers for the EIU women. Roy was fourth in the long jump at 17 while Beachy cleared 52.50 to place fifth in the high jump. Tyler Allen was second in the triple jump for the EIU men at 453.75.
The Panthers will host the EIU Mega Meet next Saturday at Lantz Indoor Fieldhouse. The Panthers will retire a jersey in honor of former Olympic triple jumper John Craft at Noon during the meet.
