Men 2nd, Women 3rd at Illini Classic

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Eastern Illinois University men's & women's track & field teams appeared as if they did not miss a beat coming off of the holiday break as the men's team finished the Illini Classic in second place overall and the women finished in third.
The EIU men finished the classic with one first place finish and four second place finishes. The EIU women took home three first place and second place finishes each.
Amy Yeoman continued her stellar pace to begin the season as she earned her second first place finish in as many meets in the 800-meter run. Yeoman improved on her season time as she finished the event at 2:14.63.
Bryn Buckwalter had the longest shot put throw as she totaled a distance of 45'10.75". She followed that up with the second best mark in the weight throw as she finished with a distance of 48'03.25".
Janie Howse flipped finishing positions with teammate Buckwalter in the shot put and the weight throw. Howse posted the best distance for the weight throw at 53'07.25" and the second best mark in the shot put at 42'09.50".
Amina Jackson finished the women's 600-meter run with a time of 1:37.40 which was the second best time for the event.
The EIU women's track & field team finished the Illini Classic in third place overall with 85 points. Illinois won the women's division with 142 points and Western Michigan finished in second at 109 points. Northern Illinois finished in fourth, while St. Louis, Bradley, Loyola, Butler, and Northwestern rounded out the placings for the women's division.
Ashton Wilson took home the best finish for the EIU men with his height of 6'05.50" in the high jump.
John Piper posted a time of 8.40 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles which earned him a second place finish in the event. Teammate, Calvin Edwards sprinted away with the second fastest time in the men's 200-meter dash with a finishing time of 22.11.
The EIU men earned second place finishes in both the pole vault and the long jump. Eric Gordon reached a finishing height of 14'01.25" in the pole vault, while Davion McManis followed that up as he traveled a distance of 22'07.00" in the long jump.
The EIU men placed second overall in the Illini Classic with a total score of 98 points. Illinois won the men's division with 185 points. St. Louis finished the classic in third as Loyola, Bradley, and Butler rounded out the rankings.
