EIU Track Sending Seven To NCAA Regional

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois track and field will send seven individuals and two relay teams to the NCAA West Regional next weekend (May 28-30) set to take place at the University of Texas in Austin. Competition opens on Thursday and concludes on Saturday. The top 12 individuals and top 12 relay teams will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Kristen Paris was the lone EIU women's athlete to make the field as she qualified for the 800m run. Paris top time of 2:08.76 ranks 36th in the West Region. The women's 800m will take place on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. This will be her first trip to the NCAA Regional meet.
On the men's side EIU will send Norvel Mohammed, Calvin Edwards, Johnathan Boey, Ephraim Dorsey, Kendall Williams and David Johansson to compete as individuals. The Panthers will also send a 4x100 and 4x400 relay squad.
Mohammed will be making his first NCAA Regional appearance competing in two events. Mohammed qualified in both the 200m and 400m dash. He is ranked 14th in the region in the 200m with a time of 20.60. He is ranked 21st in the 400m with a time of 46.53. On Thursday morning Mohammed was also named the OVC Male Athlete of the Championships after helping the Panthers win the OVC Outdoor title last weekend. The 400m dash will take place on Thursday at 7:15 pm
Edwards will compete in the 200m dash as he ranks 32nd in the region with a time of 20.94. Edwards advanced to the NCAA Regional last year in both the 200m and 400m. He placed 26th in the 400m and 29th in the 200m. This year the 200m dash will take place on Friday at 8:25 pm.
Boey will be making his first NCAA Regional appearance competing in the 100m dash. Boey was the final sprinter to make the field with his time of 10.51. The men's 100m dash is set for Thursday at 6:55 p.m.
Dorsey will compete in the 800m dash on Thursday night at 7:45 p.m. The senior enters the meet ranked 14th in the region with a time of 1:48.15. Dorsey posted that time last week setting the OVC record in the event. This will be his first NCAA Regional appearance.
Williams will compete in the long jump where he is ranked 27th in the region with a season best mark of 24'6.25". The sophomore will compete on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in his first NCAA Regional appearance.
Johansson will be making his second NCAA Regional in the last three years in the javelin. Johansson is ranked 38th in the region with a top throw of 207'. In 2013 he placed 19th in the NCAA West Region. Johansson will compete on Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m.
The men's 4x100 relay team will compete on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Panthers are ranked 11th in the NCAA West Region with a time of 39.79. The men's relay team is set to include Boey, Jamal Robinson, Edwards and Christian Ilunga-Matthiesen.
The men's 4x400 relay team will compete on Saturday at 9:45 p.m. EIU is ranked 19th in the region with a time of 3:08.84. The relay squad will include Edwards, Derek Williamson, Dorsey and Mohammed.
