Johnson Wins Men's 10K At EIU Big Blue

Panthers open home meet with two first place finishes

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois track and field opened day one of the EIU Big Blue Classic on Friday with the completion of the decathlon, heptathlon and several running events under the lights.

EIU's Eric Gordon placed second in the decathlon with 6,083 points.  Sara Fisher was third in the heptathlon scoring 3,102 points.

EIU had two first place finishes on the track with Derek Johnson winning the men's 10K with a time of 31:19.24. The men's 4x800 relay team placed first with a time of 7:48.50. The men's relay team included Mark Pedziwiatr, Miroljub Marin, Ephraim Dorsey and Michael Brown.

The women's 4x800 relay team from Illinois won the event setting a meet record with a winning time of 8:52.06.   Lipscomb closed out the night sweeping the top three spots in the women's 10K as Sally Larson set a meet record with a time of 35:18.37.

Events will resume on Saturday with the men's javelin and women's discus at 10 a.m.   The long jump is the first field event inside the stadium at 10:30 a.m. The first running events on the track start at 11 a.m. with the 110m hurdles.
