EIU Big Blue Classic Wraps Up
Saturday, April 4 2015 - Big Blue ClassicPanthers place 3rd in both men's and women's meet
Norvell Mohammed set the meet record for EIU winning the 200m dash with a time of 20.60. His time ranks second on the EIU career list. Mohammed added a first place finish in the 100m with a time of 10.54 as he tied with Brandon Stryganek of Illinois. Mohammed ran the anchor leg on the Panthers 4x100 relay team that placed second with a time of 40.53. Mohammed was joined by Zach Booth, Calvin Edwards and Jamal Robinson.
EIU swept the 800m races with Kristen Paris winning the women's event with a time of 2:12.04. Ephraim Dorsey won the men's race with a time of 1:51.29.
The EIU women's 4x100 relay team placed second with a time of 46.46. Angelica Anyaogu, Briana Walker, Anita Saffa and Nyjah Lane comprised the Panthers relay squad.
Britten Petrey of Illinois won the women's steeplechase with a time of 10:33.08 which set a stadium record. EIU's Ruth Garippo was third in the event with a time of 11:08.05.
Brittany Thomas of SIU Edwardsville won the women's 100m dash with a time of 12.40 which set the Big Blue Classic meet record. Kalena Franklin running unattached won the women's 100m hurdles with a stadium record time of 13.28.
Curtis Wideman of Southern Illinois set the meet record winning the men's discus with a throw of 184'06". Alexis Duncan of Grand Valley State set the women's long jump meet record with a distance of 19'6". In the women's high jump Elizabeth Evans (unattached) and Kandie Bloch-Jones of Illinois both broke the meet record clearing 5'8.75". Kristen Hixon competing unattached set the stadium record in the women's pole vault clearing 14'.
In throws Brittany Smith competing unattached won the women's shot put breaking the stadium record with a throw of 61'11.50". On Friday the stadium record in the women's hammer was set by Geneva Stevens competing unattached with a mark of 226'05".
Kendall Williams, David Johansson and Calvin Edwards posted fourth place finishes for the EIU men. Williams was fourth in the long jump clearing 22'11.75". Johansson was fourth in the javelin at 178'8". Edwards was fourth in the 400m dash at 48.25.
Haleigh Knapp was fourth for the EIU women in the high jump clearing 5'5.75".
