Panther Women Capture OVC Title

CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Eastern Illinois women's track and field paced all competitors as the Panthers earned first place honors at the 2015 Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday (Feb. 28), while the EIU men earned runner-up team honors following two-day action in Lantz Fieldhouse.
The Panther women finished with 132.5 total team points to lead Tennessee State (101) and Southeast Missouri (98.5) for top three honors.
On the men's side, the Redhawks of SEMO held on for a 181 point advantage, while the Panther gents secured 169.5 points and SIU Edwardsville with 115.
EIU director of track and field Tom Akers earned a pair of awards following the event as he earned Women's Coach of the Year honors as well as tying the SEMO head coach for Men's Coach of the Year accolades as well.
Combined, the two Panther units earned 13 top two finishes on the day, including seven first place trophies.
Norvel Mohammed, who was named OVC Co-Male Track Athlete of the Year prior to the year-end event, led all Panthers with two first place wins in both the 200 and 400-Meter Dashes to earn consecutive First Team All-OVC honors.
Ephraim Dorsey and Riley McInerney also won their respective 800-Meter and Mile Runs and also secured OVC First Team kudos. Meanwhile, the EIU foursome of Derek Williamson, Dorsey, Calvin Edwards and Mohammed teamed up to finish ahead of the competition in the 4x400-Meter Relay.
On the ladies side, Bryn Buckwalter earned top honors in the Shot Put to capture First Team All-OVC honors, and the EIU duo of Sadie Lovett and Annemarie Reid went one-two in the Pole Vault, thus also earning all-conference awards.
