Panther Pair Earns Weekly OVC Track Honors

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. -- Prior to hosting the upcoming league indoor track and field championship, sophomore Derek Williamson and junior Angelica Anyaogu have picked up respective Ohio Valley Conference Male Track and Female Field Athletes of the Week honors, as announced by the league office this morning (Feb. 25).
Williamson picked up a pair of top three finishes at the EIU Friday Night Special last weekend. As he helped pace the Panthers to first place team honors by winning 200-Meter and placing third in the 400-Meter Dash. The local Neoga native finished with a time of 22.73 in the 200, which was less than a half-second shy of his personal high.
Meanwhile, Anyaogu captured individual honors in the Long Jump at last Friday's home event last weekend, as the West Lakeville, Minnesota product earned a new personal best leap of 19'00", which currently ranks fourth in the OVC this season and sits as the fifth best mark in the EIU record books.
Both Panther units are now in preparation for the annual OVC Indoor Championship this coming Friday-Saturday (Feb. 27-28).
