Edwards Earns Weekly OVC Track Honor

Junior paced the Panthers at recent Illini Classic, as EIU captured third place

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. -- After helping to lead the Eastern Illinois men's indoor track and field squad to a third place finish at last weekend's Illini Classic, junior Calvin Edwards picks up Male Track Athlete of the Week honors, as announced by the league office this afternoon (Jan. 21).

A Joliet native, Edwards captured first place in the 400-Meter Dash last Saturday off a time of 48.32. That finish came less than second shy of his previous EIU Top 10 time of 47.35, which ranks as the third fastest mark in the Panther record books.

When converted due to the size of the U of I Armory track, his finish currently ranks first in the OVC and 15th in the nation.

The Panther men and women return to action this coming Saturday (Jan. 24), hosting the annual John Craft Invitational inside the Lantz Fieldhouse.
