Freshman earns first career league award after pacing EIU in indoor opener

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. -- Nyjah Lane has earned her first career Ohio Valley Conference honor as the Eastern Illinois freshman trackster has been named as the Co-Female Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office this afternoon (Jan. 14).
 
The Highland Park native had a standout debut in the Panthers' Early Bird Meet this past December, as she posted a pair of first-place finishes in the 60-Meter (7.53) and 200-Meter (25.07) Dashes to lead the Eastern women past Illinois, Southeast Missouri, Illinois State, and Western Illinois in the indoor season opener.
 
Her 60-Meter time not only currently paces the entire OVC but also set a new EIU school mark, while her 200-Meter finish sits as the second-best time in the league and already ranks in the Panther Top 5.
 
Following the extended holiday break, both the Panther men and women will return to action this weekend, as EIU is set to compete at the indoor Illini Classic on Saturday (Jan. 17).  The field slate will get underway at 9 a.m., followed by a 2 p.m. start for all racing events.
