Saturday, May 25 2013 - NCAA West Regionals

AUSTIN, Texas - After facing weather delays that pushed events back into the late hours of the night, Jade Riebold was able to respond with a fifth place finish in the pole vault prelims to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships.

Riebold was one of six EIU athletes that competed on Friday facing a multiple hour delay due to severe weather.  The pole vault began at 1 p.m. with many athletes getting just one attempt before the delays began.  Competition resumed shortly after 8:15 p.m. on Friday night.

Riebold cleared 13'5.75" to move on to the National Championships in Eugene, Oregon.  The top 11 vaulters all cleared that height with a jump off determining the 12th and final spot.  Riebold was fifth at the 13'5.75" height based on number of attempts.

Jalisa Paramore and Dominique Hall began the night competing in the women's 100m hurdles and men's 110m hurdles.  Both athletes fell just short of advancing to Saturday's semifinals.  Paramore placed 29th with a prelim time of 14.06.  Hall was 28th with a time of 14.35.  Running events started nearly two and a half hours after originally scheduled due to the weather delays.

Maura Cummins was eliminated in the high jump prelims as she cleared 5'7" to place 26th.

After the lengthy delay freshman Calvin Edwards competed in the men's 200m finishing 48th with a time of 21.98.

Britney Whitehead closed out the night for the Panthers running in the 3,000m steeplechase just after midnight local time.  Whitehead placed 13th in her heat with a time of 10:35.78.
