Viken Wins Pole Vault At Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa – Mick Viken won the men's pole vault and Jade Riebold placed second in the women's pole vault as Eastern Illinois opened competition at the 104th Drake Relays on Friday.
Viken won the men's pole vault clearing a height of 17'4.50” which stands as his season best height.
Riebold was second in the women's pole vault with a height of 13'3.50”. Riebold entered the week ranked fourth in the nation in the pole vault.
Jalisa Paramore just missed advancing to the women's 100m hurdle finals as she placed ninth in the prelims on Friday with a time of 14.40. Dominique Hall was 17th in the men's 110m hurdle prelims.
David Johansson gave EIU another top ten finish as he placed ninth in the men's javelin with a throw of 193'8”.
In other field events on Friday, Maura Cummins was 11th in the women's high jump at 5'5.75”. Tyler Carter was 16th in the long jump while Bryce Hogan was 21st.
On the track EIU placed seventh in the women's 4x800 relay with a time of 8:46.72. The relay squad consisted of Erika Ramos, Dhiaa Dean, Paige Biehler and Britney Whitehead.
The men's 4x800 relay team placed fifth with a time of 7:31.13. The relay squad includedBryce Basting, Ephraim Dorsey, Ryan Ballard and Sean Wiggan.
