Three Track Athletes Win OVC Weekly Awards

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Illinois had three athletes named as the Ohio Valley Conference Track and Field Athletes of the week following the first week of competition for the outdoor season. Winning the weekly awards were Sean Wiggan, Mick Viken and Maura Cummins.
Wiggan was named the OVC Male Track Athlete of the Week after a pair of first place finishes at the EIU ICE Dual on Saturday. Wiggan won the 800m with a time of 1:55.39. He also ran the third leg on the 4x400 meter relay team that placed first.
Viken opened the outdoor track and field season winning the OVC Male Field Athlete of the Week award. Viken cleared 17' in the pole vault in his first outdoor meet as he placed first in the event with a mark of 17'2.75”.
Cummins was named the OVC Female Field Athlete of the Week following her performance in the high jump. The freshman won the event clearing a height of 5'5 as she placed first.
The Panthers return to action this weekend as they host the Neil Moore Multi's on Thursday and Friday before hosting the EIU Big Blue Classic on Friday and Saturday at O'Brien Field.
