Track Tacks On Three More Weekly Honors
Tuesday, February 21 2012 - Friday Night SpecialBRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Illinois added three more weekly honors for men's and women's indoor track as Zye Boey, Emily Quinones and Jade Riebold were named the Ohio Valley Conference Track & Field Athletes of the Week. EIU will return to action this weekend at the OVC Indoor Track Championships in Nashville where the Panthers will look to make it four straight men's and women's indoor titles.
Boey won both the 55m and 200m sprint events at the EIU Friday Night Special. He extended his undefeated streak in the 200m event this season with a winning time of 21.56 which set the event record. In the shortened 55m dash his winning time was 6.26. Heading into the OVC Championships this weekend, Boey is the OVC leader in both sprint events.
Quinones walked away from the EIU Friday Night Special with a first place finish and a school record. She won the 200m dash with a time of 25.32. Quinones set the school mark in the 55m dash placing second with a time of 7.18. Heading into the OVC Championships she is ranked fifth in the 200m and fourth in the 60m dash.
Riebold continued her impressive first season with the EIU program as she shattered her own school record in the pole vault. Riebold placed second in the event clearing 13'6.50” which was nearly five inches better than her previous season best. She is the OVC leader in that event heading into this weekend's OVC Championship.
In addition to individual honors, the EIU men's team was ranked 12th in the Midwest Region for the second straight week by the USTFCCCA.
