TRACK SETS TWO SCHOOL RECORDS AT BIG BLUE
Friday, March 29 2019 - Big Blue ClassicEastern Illinois men's and women's track opened day one of the EIU Big Blue Classic with ten top three finishes including a pair of school records in the women's hammer and women's 400 meter hurdles.
Senior Jasmine Woodley won the women's hammer with a throw of 178'6" which was nearly three feet farther than the record set last week by MaKenna Wilson at the SIU Saluki Invite. Wilson placed second in the hammer this week with a throw of 168'11". Wilson would add a top three finish in the shot put as she was third with a mark of 42'5.25".
Senior Pedra Hicks won the women's 400 meter hurdles with a time of 59.40 as she improved upon her own school record in the event.
Dustin Hatfield was first in the men's 5,000 meters with a time of 14:38.07 with teammate Marcus Skinner third with a time of 14:46.81. Avani Flanagan made a charge over the final 600 meters to finish in third place in the women's 5,000 meter run with a time of 17:57.59.
Senior Joe Smith added a first place finish for the Panther men as he won the long jump with a leap of 22'5.25". Nick Phillips was second in the men's hammer with a throw of 193'2" which ranks as the fourth best throw in school history. Clayton Turner rounded out the top three EIU men in field events on Friday with a second place effort in the shot put. He had a throw of 53'1.50".
