Track & Field Prepares For Meyo Invitational

After earning a combined 20, top 10 finishes at the Indiana Relays, the Eastern Illinois indoor track & field teams will once again continue their season on the road as they travel to South Bend, Ind. this weekend (Feb. 5-6) for the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational. The Notre Dame Meyo Invite will take place in the Loftus Sports Center located on the Notre Dame campus. PANTHERS MOVE UP THE RECORD BOOKS
Two EIU indoor track & field members had record setting performances with a third moving up into fifth place in program history.
Haleigh Knapp, who set the women's high jump record earlier this season at the EIU Early Bird where she went over the bar at 5'10.50", once again broke the record, as she reached a new height of 5'11.25" at the Indiana Relays. Knapp currently first in the OVC and 15th in NCAA Division I for women's high jump. Knapp was also named this week's "Female OVC Field Athlete of the Week."
Dhiaa Dean was the other Panthers' member to break a program record. Dean, who already set the record for the women's 600-meter run last season, once again broke the record with her time of 1:32.91 at the Indiana Relays. Dean currently ranks 25th in NCAA Division I.
Janie Howse moved up the ranks in the EIU record books for the women's shot put. Howse tossed a distance of 46'09" in the event at the Indiana Relays, which places her fifth all-time in EIU history.
BOEY FIRST TO THE FINISH
After winning his heat in the 60-meter dash during the first night of the Indiana Relays, Johnathan Boey qualified for the finals in the 60-meter dash the following day. Boey was the first sprinter to cross the finish line in the finals as he posted a time of 6.88.
ABOUT THE MEYO INVITATIONAL
The two-day Notre Dame Meyo Invitational will begin this Friday (Feb. 5) at 3 p.m. (central time) with the field events of the women's unseeded pole vault, women's long jump, and women's weight throw being the opening events. The running events will begin at approximately 3:30 p.m. (central time) starting with the women's 60-meter hurdles prelims. The men's 200-meter dash will be the final event for the first night and is expected to begin at 8:25 p.m. (central time).
The unseeded sections of the running events will open up day two at the Meyo Invite at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 6). The field events are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. (central time) and the invitational sections of the running events will begin at 1:00 p.m. (central time).
Following this weekend's action at the Meyo Invitational, the EIU indoor track & field teams will travel to the Grand Valley State Big Meet on Feb. 12-13.
