Johnathan Boey places first in men's 60-meter dash to highlight top 10 finishes

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Eastern Illinois University indoor track & field team picked up right where they left off following the first day at the Indiana Relays. The Panthers finish the second day at the Indiana Relays with seven top 10 finishes, including a top finish in the men's 60-meter dash.

After qualifying for the final round of the men's 60-meter dash the previous night by winning his preliminary heat,Johnathan Boey outraced the competition and crossed the finish line first with his time of 6.88.

Freshman Ashton Wilson cleared the bar at 6'06.75" for a new season best mark in high jump. The result put him in seventh place overall in the event and is currently second best in the OVC this season.

Riley McInerney posted a 10th place finish in the mile run as he ended the event with a time of 4:11.61.

For the EIU women, Amy Yeoman headlined the top finishes of the day as she ended the 800-meter run at 2:13.52 for a new indoor best time and moved up to seventh place in the EIU record book.

Anita Saffa finished the women's 60-meter dash in sixth place overall (7.69) and teammate Janie Howse tossed a distance of 58'08.50" in the weight throw for the ninth best mark.

The women's 4x400-meter relay committee of Amina JacksonDarneisha SpannCassidy Strohl, and Dhiaa Deansprinted to an eighth place finish with their time of 3:55.32. The mark is a new season best time and currently places them with the fourth best time in the OVC.

The Panthers ended the two-day event with 20, top 10 finishes combined.

The Eastern Illinois track & field teams will travel to South Bend, Ind. next weekend (Feb. 5-6) for the Notre Dame Meyo Invite.

Friday (Jan. 29) highlights included Haleigh Knapp breaking the EIU women's high jump record with her third place finish in the event at 5'11.25".

Dean broke her own EIU record she previously held in the women's 600-meter run, placed third overall at the Indiana Relays with her time of 1:32.91.

Howse moved into fifth place in EIU history with her shot put toss traveling a distance of 46'09", as she ended the event in ninth overall.
