Women place 7th in field, men send three individuals to compete

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Eastern Illinois cross country sent a group of runners to compete at the Illini Cross Country Open over the weekend with the women's team placing seventh in the field. The Panther men did not have enough scored runners to post a team score.

EIU will compete at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships on Nov. 1 in Oxford, Ala.

The three EIU men competing in Champaign were Tyler Anderson, Michael Brown and Greg Rogers. Anderson placed 33rd with a time of 27:18.10. Brown was 36th with a time of 27:36.64 and Rogers was 43rd at 27:48.83 in the 8K race.

Ruth Garippo led the EIU women during the 5K event placing 30th with a time of 19:18.58. Amy Yeoman was 39th with a time of 19:31.66. Cassy Shaffer, Christina Gastfieldand Chelsea Sondgeroth completed the top five scored EIU runners. Shaffer was 50th with a time of 19:46.83. Gastfield was 56th with a time of 20:02.52. Sondgeroth was 60th with a time of 20:21.47. Other EIU women's runners in the field included Lea Viano, Caroline Collet, Michelle Meyerholtz and Jennifer Luna. Viano was 67th with a time of 20:29.16, Collet was 71st with a time of 20:49.96, Meyerholtz was 73rd with a time of 20:58.80 and Luna was 76th with a time of 21:26.30.
