Cross Country Releases 2014 Schedule

Season opens Sept. 5 with EIU Walt Crawford

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois cross country coach Erin Howarth has released the Panthers schedule for the 2014 season which will open with the EIU Walt Crawford Open on Friday evening, Sept. 5 at the EIU Panther Trail.  The Ohio Valley Conference Championship will take place in Oxford, Ala., with the NCAA Midwest Regional set for Peoria.
 
Following the season opening EIU Walt Crawford Open, EIU will compete on Sept. 12 at the Bradley Intercollegiate.  The Panthers then take three weeks off returning to action on Oct. 4 at the Louisville Cross Country Classic in Kentucky.  EIU returns to Peoria for the second time on Oct. 17 to compete in the Bradley Classic which will be contested at the Newman Golf Course, site of the NCAA Midwest Regional.  The OVC Championship will take place on Nov. 1 with the NCAA Midwest Regional set for Nov. 14.  The NCAA Championships return to Terre Haute, Ind., this season on Nov. 22.
 
The EIU women placed third in the NCAA meet last year featuring a young squad comprised of sophomores and freshmen.  Sophomore Victoria Quarton was a second team All-OVC runner followed by fellow sophomore Kelsey Hardimon.  EIU's next three finishers at the OVC Championships were all freshmen in Julie JamesIvy Handleyand Emily Brelsfoard.
 
On the men's side EIU placed fourth at the OVC Championships with freshman Riley McInerney the top Panthers finisher earning second team All-OVC accolades.  McInerney was joined by fellow freshman Paxson Menard as two of EIU's top five finishers at the OVC Meet.  EIU placed 16th at the NCAA Regional with strong performances by two seniors Pablo Ramirez and Mike Hesslau.
