Cross Country Opens 2013 Season Friday
Thursday, September 5 2013 - EIU Walt Crawford OpenWomen's 5K at 4:45, Men's 8K at 5:30 p.m.
CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's and women's cross country teams open the season this Friday as they host the Walt Crawford Invite at the EIU Panther Trail. The women's meet will begin at 4:45 with a 5K race followed by the men's 8K at 5:30 p.m.
The field includes five NCAA Division I schools which will compete in dual scoring. Evansville, Murray State, SIU Edwardsville and Southern Illinois will all bring teams to the meet joining EIU as Division I entries. They will be joined by Benedictine of Springfield, Danville Area CC, Huntington, Lincoln College, Missouri Valley, Vincennes, William Woods and the Illinois Cross Country Club.
The EIU men return three of their top runners from last season in seniors Pablo Ramirez, Danny Delaney and junior Bryce Basting.
The EIU women will field a young team led by senior Gaby Duenas-Delaney, who returns after sitting out the 2012 season.
