Track Friday Night Special On Tap

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois track and field will prep for the upcoming Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship as they host the EIU Friday Night Special at Lantz Fieldhouse this Friday.  The meet will begin at 2 p.m. with the weight throw.  Running events begin at 3 p.m.

In addition to Eastern Illinois the Friday Night Special will include teams from Illinois, Illinois-Chicago, Indiana State, Lincoln College, Principia, Rend Lake, Southern Illinois and Vincennes.

EIU had a solid showing at last week's Grand Valley State Big Meet.  Calvin Edwards picked up a first place finish in the men's 200m dash while Sean Wiggan matched his school record in the 600m winning the event.  Erika Ramos posted a school record in the women's mile placing second in the race.

For the season EIU currently has three athletes ranked in the top 50 in the NCAA heading into the weekend.  Mick Viken and Jade Riebold are currently ranked in the top 15 nationally in the men's and women's pole vault.  Bryce Basting is currently 39th in nationally in the men's 800m.

EIU hosts the OVC Indoor Track Championships in Lantz Fieldhouse on Feb. 22-23.
