Boey Advances To 200m Semifinals

EUGENE, Ore. - Eastern Illinois senior sprinter Zye Boey kept his dream alive of earning a spot on this years United States Olympic Team as he advanced to the semifinals of the 200m dash on Friday afternoon.
Boey placed third in his 200m heat with a time of 20.62 which was the 16th fastest time overall. Boey will now compete in Saturday night's semifinal race set for 6 p.m. (Pacific) at the University of Oregon.
Boey is competing in his first Olympic Trials and his second event of the two week long event. He ran in the 100m prelims on Saturday evening. The top American athletes will earn a spot to represent the USA at the 2012 London Games. Boey is the lone EIU athlete competing at this year's Olympic Trials. Sophomore Jade Riebold also received a late entry as a pole vaulter but was unable to compete.
Boey completed his EIU career in June earning second team All-American honors in both the 100m and 200m events. He is looking to join John Craft as the lone EIU track athlete to represent EIU at the Olympic Games in track. Craft placed fifth in the triple jump at the 1972 Munich Games. Former EIU sprinter Dan Steele earned a bronze medal in the bobsled at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games.
