Hits NCAA provisional mark in 200m

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Redshirt freshman Zye Boey had a dominant weekend for Eastern Illinois indoor track as he was the top collegiate finisher in the 60m and 200m sprints at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational. David Holm also picked up a win in the 1000m on the weekend for EIU.

Boey placed second in the 60m dash with a time of 6.69 which was his second fastest mark of the season. He was just behind unattached runner Shannon King who crossed at 6.64. In the 200m dash Boey hit the NCAA provisional time and broke the school record with a time of 20.93 to win the race.

Teammates DeMarcus Brooks and Chevon Walker were also top finishers in the 60m dash. Brooks placed 6th and Walker 7th.

On Friday evening senior David Holm won the 1000m run with a time of 2:23.41. Teammate Clint Coffey placed 6th.

Jumps coach JaRod Tobler won the long jump as an unattached competitor while freshman Tyler Carter was the eighth place finisher in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.22.

On the women’s side Chandra Golden turned in a top performance on the track with a fourth place showing in the 60m hurdles. Golden crossed in a time of 8.48 which moved her up to third on the EIU career list.

Shawana Smith just missed qualifying for the 60m dash but did finish in 13th place. She was also 13th in the 200m dash at 24.94.

In field events Kandace Arnold collected her second seventh place finish in an event. She had a shot put distance of 45’01.75 which ranked 7th. On Friday evening Arnold was seventh in the weight throw with teammate Nicole Walcott finishing just behind in 8th place.

EIU returns to action next weekend when they travel to Iowa State.
