Panther Track Travels To Notre Dame

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois indoor track will venture away from Lantz Fieldhouse for the first time this season as the Panthers men and women compete at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
Events start at 5 p.m. on Friday evening with the long jump with Saturday’s morning session slated for a 9 a.m. start in the 3000m run. The afternoon session will begin at 1 p.m. with the high jump.
The EIU men will feature two runners who enter the weekend nationally ranked. EIU’s men track earned a No. 76 ranking based on where their current top men’s finishers would score points at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Freshman Zye Boey is currently tied for fifth in 60m dash for top times posted this indoor season. His mark of 6.66 set the school record last week at the Illinois Invitational. He is currently tied with two other freshmen – Marcus Rowland of Auburn and Maurice Mitchell of Florida State. The NCAA championships provisional mark is 6.74.
Senior David Holm is currently third in the 800m run after posting a Lantz Fieldhouse record of 1:49.60 last week at the Illinois Intercollegiate. Holm’s time is converted to a 1:49.00 based on the type of track EIU runs and currently ranks third in the NCAA this year. Holm’s time cleared the NCAA championships provisional mark.
In field events junior Ian Winston had the best mark of his career in the high jump earning OVC Field Athlete of the Week with a high jump of 6’10.75.”
On the women’s side Shawana Smith captured the 200m dash title for the third straight week while Chandra Golden was second in the 60m hurdles but did set a personal record moving into 4th on the EIU career list.
In women’s field events Kandace Arnold swept the shot put and weight throw titles at the Illinois Intercollegiate.
