School, Meet Records Fall At Vanderbilt Invite

NASHVILLE - Eastern Illinois track and field had an impressive first day at the Vanderbilt Invite as they posted three first place finishes along with one school record and one meet record.  Competition resumes on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Zye Boey won the 200m dash with a time of 20.51.  Already the school record holder in the event the senior improved his own school record time by 0.16 seconds in the victory.

In the pole vault Mick Viken was not able to match his school record height from last week at the WKU Hilltopper Invite but he was good enough to set records at Vanderbilt.  Viken won the event with a height of 17'6.50 which set a meet and facility record.

The final first place finish was Graham Morris in the 1500m with a time of 3:45.24.  Morris time ranks second on the EIU career list.

Olivia Klaus also posted a mark that landed second on EIU's career list with her second place finish in the steeplechase.  Klaus covered the course in a time of 10:54.94.

Donald Romero added a career EIU top ten mark with his performance in the shot put.  Romero's distance of 53'3.50" was good enough for third at the Vanderbilt meet and ninth on the EIU career list.

Melanie Thompson and Bryce Hogan rounded out the top three finishers for EIU on Friday.  Thompson was third in the javelin with a throw of 122'9".  Hogan was second in the long jump at 24'4.50".
