Men's Indoor Track Moves Up One Spot In Region
Wednesday, February 8 2012 - Grand Valley State InviteNEW ORLEANS – Eastern Illinois men's indoor track and field moved up one spot in this week's USTFCCA Midwest Regional poll landing at No. 11. The Panthers had a strong showing at the Notre Dame Meyo Invite last weekend and will compete this week at Grand Valley State.
EIU currently has four athletes ranked among the top 35 in the nation based on recorded performances. Senior Zye Boey is ranked in two events as he is sixth nationally in the 200m and 27th nationally in the 60m dash. Boey has won all four 200m events he has competed in this season.
The other three athletes come in field events. Donald Romero is 23rd in the weight throw. Tyler Carter is 29th in the long jump and Mick Viken is 31st in the pole vault.
Nebraska ranks first in the Midwest Region followed by Oklahoma, Minnesota, Iowa and Kansas State. Illinois is sixth with Iowa State, Kansas, Southern Illinois and Missouri rounding out the top ten. Eastern Illinois is 11th with Oklahoma State, Loyola-Chicago, Oral Roberts and Wichita State rounding out the regional top fifteen.
