Track Takes Home 3 Of 4 Weekly Awards
Tuesday, February 7 2012 - Notre Dame Meyo InviteBRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the second time this season Eastern Illinois track and field athletes have won three of the four weekly awards handed out the by the conference office. In a repeat performance from two weeks ago Zye Boey, Donald Romero and Jade Riebold have been named OVC Track & Field Athletes of the Week.
Boey had another top performance in the 200m dash as he won the Notre Dame Meyo Invite with a time of 21.12. It was Boey's fourth win of the season in that event and second straight week he has won in a top level field of competitors. Boey was second in the 60m dash losing by 0.02 seconds as he crossed with a time of 6.77. This marks Boey's third straight OVC Male Track Athlete of the Week Award.
Romero won his second OVC Male Field Athlete of the Week Award following a strong showing in throws at the Notre Dame Meyo Invite. Romero was second in the weight throw with a distance of 65'9” which moved him up to second on the EIU career list. Romero was ninth in the shot put with a throw of 51'1.50”.
On the women's side Jade Riebold won her second OVC Female Field Athlete of the Week Award with another record setting mark in the pole vault. Riebold placed fourth in the event at the Notre Dame Meyo Invite with a height of 13'1.75”. That vault passed her pervious school record set two weeks ago.
