Track Finishes Up Regular Season At Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Eastern Illinois had a contingent of track and field athletes compete at the Louisville Twilight on Friday as members of the men's and women's teams took one last shot of moving up into the top 48 of the NCAA Regional rankings.
Running events at the track went late into the night on Friday evening after the Panthers posted four top five finishes in field events during the afternoon session.
Senior Darren Patterson was one of those running late in the evening as he finished fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 21.42.
Mick Viken and Joe Noonan placed third and fourth in the pole vault on Friday afternoon. Viken, who has already locked up a berth in the NCAA Regional, cleared 16'10” to place third. Noonan posted a career best vault of 16'6” to place fourth. His pole vault height ranks sixth on the EIU career list.
Tyler Arnholt entered the weekend in the top 48 in the discus and placed fourth in that event. Arnholt had a throw of 173'6”. Donald Romero who is ranked in the top 48 in the hammer posted a sixth place finish in a strong field with a throw of 187'9”.
Tyler Allen rounded out the top five finishers in field events for the men with a fourth place finish in the triple jump. Allen cleared 44'7”.
Bridget Sanchez turned in an early top five finish in track events as she placed third in the 400m dash. Sanchez finished with a time of 55.04.
The Panther men's hurdle group turned in a dominant performance on Friday night. Dominique Hall placed second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.77. Later on Pat Tortorici led a 1-2-3 EIU finish in the 400m hurdles. Tortorici won the event with a time of 52.07 followed by Kris Gehrke in second at 52.31 and Preston Smith in third at 52.56.
Next up for EIU is the NCAA West Regional to be hosted by Oregon. The top 48 individuals in events in the region will compete in Eugene along with the top 24 relay teams.
