Track Hosts Big Blue Classic This Weekend

CHARLESTON, Ill. – After having its first full meet of the outdoor season cancelled last week due to inclement weather at SIU Edwardsville, Eastern Illinois will put its full men’s and women’s track and field squads into action this weekend when they host the Big Blue Classic at O’Brien Field. 

Action begins on Thursday at O’Brien Field with the men’s decathlon and women’s heptathlon beginning at 11 a.m. The action for the Neil Moore Multi’s will continue on Friday morning with events starting at 10 a.m. 

On Friday afternoon the Big Blue Classic gets underway with the hammer throw at 2 p.m. Running events on the track begin at 6 p.m. Friday evening with the 400 meter hurdles. Friday night track events conclude with the 10,000 meter run set for 8:50 p.m. 

Saturday’s schedule gets underway with the javelin throw at 10 a.m. Running events are slated to start at 11:30 a.m. The final event of the Big Blue Classic is the 4x400 relay set to begin at 5:35 p.m. 

This year’s field includes teams from Bradley, Chicago State, Illinois State, Indiana State, Marion, McKendree, Millikin, Rockford, SIU Edwardsville, Western Illinois, Western Michigan and UW Milwaukee.
