Two School Records Fall For Track At Meyo Invite

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Eastern Illinois indoor track and field set two school records and posted several other top ten marks as the Panthers wrapped up competition on Saturday at the Notre Dame Meyo Invite. 

Zye Boey continued his outstanding year as he placed first in the seeded 200m dash and second in the 60m dash. Boey’s winning time of 20.89 in the 200m broke the school record which Boey had previously set in 2009 with a mark of 20.93. Boey’s time of 8.76 was second in the 60m dash while teammate Jacob Mitchell was fifth in the 60m at 6.85. 

Megan Gingerich set the EIU school record in the 800m run as she placed seventh in the seeded race with a time of 2:10.96. Gingerich broke the school mark of 2:12.54 which was set by Lauren Lynch in 1987. 

Bridget Sanchez and Erika Ramos also posted marks in the EIU career top ten with top ten finishes in their respective events. Sanchez placed seventh in the unseeded 400m run with a time of 56.37 which ranks second at EIU. Ramos was ninth in the unseeded mile with a time of 5:01.61 which landed at sixth on the EIU top ten list. 

Darren Patterson moved up the EIU career top ten on the men’s side as he placed fourth in the seeded 400m dash. Patterson’s time of 47.94 ranks fourth at EIU. Patterson also ran the second leg on the men’s 4x400 relay that placed 5th with a time of 3:14.20. That time is fifth on the EIU career top ten as the team consisted of Cody Boarman, Patterson, Preston Smith and Patrick Tortorici

Boarman placed sixth in the men’s unseeded 400m with a time of 48.80. Other top ten finishers for EIU on Saturday included Dominque Hall with a fifth place finish in the 60m hurdles at 8.20 and Chris Wright with a 10th place finish in the unseeded 200m at 22.37. 

EIU returns to action next weekend at Iowa State Classic.
