Men 4th, Women 6th At Illinois State Meet

NORMAL, Ill. - Eastern Illinois men's cross country placed fourth while the Panther women placed sixth in a competitive field on Friday evening at the Country Financial Illinois State Invitational. ,EIU returns to action Oct. 2 at the Notre Dame Invite.
Riley McInerney led the EIU men with a second place finish on the 8K course as he posted a time of 24:38.2. ,Tyler Morse of Illinois State was the race winner with a time of 24:38.2, edging McInerney by just under three seconds.
Paxson Menard added a top finish finish for the EIU men with a time of 24:58.7 placing eighth. ,Joe Calio was 14th with a time of 25:15.5 while Tyler Yunk and Greg Rogers rounded out the top five scored runners. ,Yunk had an 8K time of 25:55.6 while Rogers posted a time of 26:06.4.
Juan Barajas placed 46th in his first race for EIU posting a time of 26:09.7. ,Chris Orlow was the seventh EIU runner to cross the finish line with a time of 26:11.6 good for 48th place.
Illinois State won the men's meet with 79 points with Iowa in second with 80 points. ,Loyola-Chicago was third with 84 points and EIU placed fourth with 97.
Maria Baldwin was the women's top finisher for EIU with a 12th place showing. ,Baldwin ran the 5K course in a time of 18:14.6. ,Baldwin helped the Panthers finish in sixth place with 116 points. ,Loyola-Chicago won the women's race with 60 points followed by Illinois State and Illinois in the top three.
Ivy Handley was 18th, Emily Brelsfoard 22nd and Rachel Garippo 28th as the Panthers had four runners finish in the top 30. ,Handley's time was 18:24.6. ,Brelsfoard posted a time of 18:28.9 with Garippo completing the course in 18:39.8.
Amy Yeoman rounded out the top five scored EIU women's runners in 38th place with a time of 18:53.8. ,Ruth Garippo andQuincy Knolhoff closed out the top seven EIU runners. ,Garippo was 40th with Knolhoff just behind in 41st. ,Garippo's time was 18:56.5 while Knolhoff's time was 18:59.9.
