Track Visits Indiana For Billy Hayes Meet

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois track and field returns to action this weekend competing at the Indiana Billy Hayes Meet. In past seasons the first weekend in May has served as the OVC Outdoor Championships but this season it has been moved back to May 15-16 at Austin Peay. The IU Billy Hayes will be held on Saturday with field events at 10 a.m. and track events at 11 a.m.
EIU competed in two meets last week with select athletes and relays competing at the 106th Drake Relays. At the relay event senior Ephraim Dorsey placed second in the 800m run with a time of 1:49.85. His time ranks as the fifth best in school history. On the women's side Whitney Maninfior posted the fifth best time in school history in the 10K.
The men's 4x100 relay team tied the school record in the prelims tying for the top prelim time with Arkansas at 39.79. During the finals EIU finished third behind the Razorbacks and Illinois. At the meet EIU's 4x400 men's relay team posted the second best time in school history.
A large group of athletes competed earlier in the week at the Indiana State Midweek Open. EIU turned in 12 first place finishes at the meet. Annemarie Reid won the pole vault with the third best height in school history. Bryn Buckwalter won the shot put posting the third best women's mark for EIU.
With two weeks remaining before the OVC Championships, EIU currently has 18 athletes and four relay teams that rank in the top three in the OVC this season.
Danny Trevor, Eric Gordon and Norvel Mohammed all rank in the top three in multiple events. Trevor is first in the 400m hurdles this season and second in the 110m hurdles. Gordon is first in the decathlon and pole vault. Mohammed is first in the 200m dash and third in the 400m dash.
Christian Kolb joins Trevor in the top three in the 400m hurdles ranking second in the OVC. Dorsey is second in the 800m. Riley McInerney is third in the men's 1500m.Joe Calio is third in the steeplechase. Elliot Krause is third in the pole vault and David Johansson is third in the javelin.
On the women's side Amina Jackson is third in the 400m hurdles. Buckwalter is third in the shot put. Jackie Jones is second in the high jump. Ruth Garippo is third in the steeplechase. EIU holds the top two spots in the women's pole vault with Reid ranking first and Sadie Lovett second.
EIU has three relay teams ranked first in the conference with the men's 4x100, women's 4x100 and men's 4x400. The women's 4x400 relay team ranks third.
