EIU Women's Track Adds Six Athletes

Eastern Illinois director of track and field Tom Akers has announced the addition of six athletes that will join the Panther women’s track and field team next season. Signing national letters of intent with EIU are Trinea Bobo, Jaida Moore, Condia Smith, Klaudia Susul, Melanie Thompson and Ashley Webb.

Bobo comes to EIU following a prep career at Thornton Fractional North High School in Calumet City where she earned two berths in the IHSA Class 2A state championship as a senior. She participated in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays running the anchor leg on both teams. The 4x100 relay team placed sixth with a time of 49.35 while the 4x200 relay team was also sixth with a mark of 1:44.20.

Moore was the lone IHSA Class 3A state qualifier for Alton High School as she earned a trip to the state meet in the 100m and 200m dash. She entered the state meet with a time of 12.44 in the 100m while her sectional mark of 25.40 in the 200m was the eighth best qualifying mark in the state.

Smith was a two-event IHSA Class 2A state qualifier participating at Bloomington High School. She was the state runner-up in the shot put with a distance of 39’1.75” while placing fifth in the discus with 120’11”.

Susul is a multi-event athlete from Leyden High School in Franklin Park where she earned a trip to the IHSA Class 3A state championships in four different events. She participated in the long jump, 100m, 200m and 400m runs. She placed seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 25.36. She entered the state meet ranked seventh in the long jump with a sectional distance of 17’8”.

Thompson was a two-event IHSA Class 1A state qualifier in throws competing for Bureau Valley High School in Manlius. She was the state runner-up in the shot put with a toss of 40’3.25”. She placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 124’6”.

Webb prepped at Benton High School where she earned a trip to the IHSA Class 1A state championships in the shot put and discus. She was sixth in the discus with a throw of 122’5 while her shot put mark of 37’10” placed seventh in the state.

EIU won the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference indoor and outdoor championships.
